John Lennon would have been 76 — ! — today.
While my personal Beatle tastes tip slightly to the McCartney side of the ledger, particularly in their solo careers, I’d argue Lennon was the more artful lyricist. He had the way all superior communicators do of encapsulating a meaningful truth in fresh and thought-provoking ways.
Like this line from “Beautiful Boy,” from his final album, just before he was murdered in 1980:
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
What say we live a little life today in remembrance of him.
